Altes LandHouse country lodge is a stately Cape Dutch style homestead, cradled in the fertile Schoemanshoek valley of South Africa s Little Karoo. Lovingly furnished with tasteful Victorian antiques, Altes Landhaus combines historic charm and a tranquil, African country atmosphere to offer splendid accommodation in country comfort. The homestead s magnificent gardens are evidence of a climate which boasts 360 sunshine days a year: an abundance of red and white rose blooms, soft lilac Jacaranda blossoms and old, shady trees frame a plush expanse of well-tended lawns. Summer hues, fragrant scents and the dry, hot Karoo air provide an intoxicating backdrop for the clear turqouise waters of our salt-water swimming pool, tucked away in a tranquil corner of the homestead s garden, and featuring a friendly pool bar. Leisurely walks around the scenic grounds of Altes Landhaus provide many an opportunity to admire the indigenous birdlife, or the farm s own ostriches. The idyllic charms of the Garden Route ? sandy beaches, leafy forests, golfing greens and scenic mountain passes ? provide a diverse choice of exciting day outings. A relaxing day concludes with sunset drinks on the African patio, as dusk folds its colourful wings around another varied and enjoyable day.

Immerse yourself...Cradled in the fertile Schoemanshoek Valley of South Africa’s Little Karoo, a stately Cape Dutch style homestead awaits to introduce you to the beauty and charm that is Altes Landhaus. The homestead was built a hundred years ago, and served as rectory to the local church from the 1950’s. Heinz and Helen Meyer bought the farm in 1994, endeavouring to restore its historic splendour. Antique furnishings and tasteful decor ring true to the homestead’s Victorian past, while oregon pine floorboards and high-beamed ceilings reflect its rustic surroundings. With great care and dedication, they have recreated an elegant tribute to colonial country living. Leisurely walks around the scenic grounds provide many an opportunity to admire the indigenous birdlife, or the farms own ostriches

Accommodation

Rich colours and soft textures combine with animal print and fine embroidery to create accommodation fit for kings and queens. Immerse yourself in the superbly decorated suites and double rooms with comfortable private sitting rooms and en-suite bathrooms.

Directions

From Cape Town: Take the N1 to Worcester and the R60 to Montagu. Continue on the R62 through Barrydale, Ladismith and Calitzdorp to Oudtshoorn. In Oudtshoorn continue straight until you reach Baron van Reede Street (3rd traffic light) and turn left. Continue towards the Cango Caves for 14 km and turn left at the Schoemanshoek sign post, pass the church on your right and follow the signs. From George: (Garden Route) Take the N9 / N12 over the Outeniqua pass to Oudtshoorn. In Oudtshoorn, continue straight along the main road towards the Cango Caves. After 14 km turn left at the Schoemanshoek sign post, pass the church on your right and follow the signs. From Beaufort West: (N1 from Gauteng) Take the N12 from Beaufort West through Meiringspoort and De Rust to Oudtshoorn. In Oudtshoorn continue straight to Baron van Reede Street (3rd traffic light). Turn right towards the Cango Caves and continue for 14 km. Turn left at the Schoemanshoek sign post, pass the church on the right and follow the signs.
